Frequently Asked Questions

Have A Question? We Got Answers

What does "Support" actually mean with PCS?

Supported Living is a service designed to help adults with diverse needs live as independently as possible in their own home, rather than in a care home. With PCS, you or your loved one will have a tenancy and your own private space. We then provide the tailored care and support you need to manage that tenancy, develop life skills, and be part of the community. It’s about having your own home with the right support to live your life your way.

How do you ensure the quality and safety of your staff?

The safety and well-being of our service users is our highest priority. All our staff undergo a rigorous recruitment process, including:

  • Enhanced DBS checks.

  • Thorough reference checks.

  • Verification of their right to work in the UK.
Once hired, they complete a comprehensive induction and are trained in safeguarding, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), mental capacity, and specialist areas relevant to the people they support. We are a CQC-registered provider, meaning our practices and staff are held against the highest regulatory standards.

Any experiences with high staff turnover elsewhere. How is PCSL different?

We understand that consistency is crucial for building trust and effective support. We actively combat staff burnout and turnover by:

  • Building larger teams to allow for flexible rotas and prevent over-reliance on a few individuals.

  • Offering competitive employment packages and guaranteed hours where possible.

  • Fostering a supportive work culture where staff feel valued, leading to high retention.

  • Having an established, core team of experienced staff who provide a consistent presence.

How involved will we be as a family in our loved one's care?

We believe in a collaborative approach. With the individual’s permission, we actively involve families, friends, and other professionals in care planning and reviews. You are a vital partner in helping us understand your loved one’s history, preferences, and goals. We maintain open communication and see you as a key part of the support network.

What happens in an emergency or outside of office hours?

We provide 24/7 support. Our office is open 9 am-5 pm, Monday to Friday. Outside these hours, we have a dedicated on-call manager available by phone for any urgent matters or emergencies. This ensures that you and your loved one always have access to support, day or night.

How do you create a support plan, and what if our needs change?

Every support plan is co-produced with the individual at the centre. We start by listening to your goals, needs, and preferences. This plan is a live document that we regularly review together. If your needs or aspirations change, we adapt the plan accordingly. Our service is designed to be flexible and scalable to ensure it remains right for you. numquam, error, est. Ea, consequatur.

What is your approach to supporting individuals with challenging behaviour?

We use a proactive and evidence-based approach called Positive Behaviour Support (PBS). Instead of just reacting to behaviours, our trained staff work to understand the underlying reasons for them (e.g., communication, anxiety, sensory needs). We then develop personalised strategies to help the individual learn new ways to communicate and get their needs met, reducing the need for challenging behaviour and improving their quality of life.

How do you help individuals integrate into the local community?

Community integration is a core part of our mission. We support individuals to:

  • Access local facilities like shops, parks, libraries, and leisure centres.

  • Pursue education at local colleges or find voluntary/work opportunities.

  • Join clubs and social groups based on their interests.

  • Use public transport confidently.
Our staff act as facilitators, helping to build bridges and connections within the local area, turning a house into a true home within a community.

and improving their quality of life.
